Four nights dinner, bed & breakfast at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel
Day 1 – Once we have collected all passengers from their agreed pick up points we will head to Lancashire. On the way we will call at Leeds. This vibrant city is home to spectacular shopping, entertaining attractions plus award winning bars and restaurants. After a few hours free to explore it will be back to the coach for the remainder of our journey.
Day 2 – Our first stop today will be Lancaster Castle. The castle served as a prison until 2012 when it was given back to King Charles. Today the castle offers a glimpse into its dark past which includes the trials of the Lancashire Witches and over 200 executions for crimes from cattle theft to murder. After time to explore the castle we will take a short walk to the Judges Lodgings – the city’s oldest town house. Learn how the house built by Thomas Covell, keeper of the castle back in 1625 became famous and the home of the ‘Red Judges.’ This afternoon we make our way to the home of the Gillow Furniture family, Leighton Hall. Our guide will bring to life the tales and tribulations of the estate.
Day 3 – This morning we make our way to
Blackpool for a visit to the Winter Gardens. Relive historic acts and access areas not open to the general public. This afternoon we make our way to Lancaster for a relaxing afternoon tea cruise along the canal.
Day 4 –
Helmshore Mill Textile Museum is our first destination today. Learn the history of the textile trade as Lancashire supplied one third of the world’s cotton goods. See the two working mills in action during the visit. Our second destination is
Gawthorpe Hall. This National Trust property sits nestled in the Pendle Hills spread over 40 acres of land. Take a stroll through the woods or discover the treasures that lie within the Jacobean historic house.
Day 5 –
Sadly today we must leave Lancashire. Before we do we visit the impressive half-timbered black and white medieval house
Samlesbury Hall. A guided tour has been arranged by one of the characters who haunt the house. If we have time after our visit to Samlesbury Hall there will be free time in Manchester before we return you all to your original boarding points.
